"Senior (insert current title here)."

"Manager (current department name)."

"(Current job title.)"

Is it any wonder we end up finding similar jobs to our current roles when our searches look like this?

The corporate ladder cares about titles – but those of us on a Career River know it's all about the solutions we bring, not what's printed on our business cards.

Take this quick quiz to see if you've been using a static search when what you really need is to broaden your view:

Did you find you've been targeting roles from strategic plans past, or that you're bumping up against a status block? Then it's time to stop running job title searches and start surfacing the problems you're primed to solve.

Try this:

1. List the three most complex problems you solved in the past two years.

2. Go to a job site and search for those problems ("reducing churn," "driving conversions," "developing new products.")

3. Ignore the titles that pop up. Look for challenges where you can offer solutions.

Give it a try to stop chasing someone else's idea of status and start activating your hard-won expertise. I'd love to hear what you find!

Happy navigating,
Bridget
